This course focuses on the theory and principles of radiation and their application to radiography. Subjects included in this course include an introduction to Industrial Radiography Testing – Radiation Sources – Properties and production of X and gamma rays – Radiographic techniques – Radiographic film-film processing – radiographic image quality – Types of films – Film Characteristics – Geometric Unsharpness – Sensitivity – IQI’s – Application to Radiography Radiation Safety – Identification of weld defects and their components; viewing conditions, identification of radiographs; spurious indications and film artefacts; appreciation of radiographic principles and parameters of interpretation; standards for radiographic practice; interpretation tutorial; acceptance criteria – codes and standards, procedures, and written practices- reporting.
Course Objectives:
- To explain the basic theory of X – and gamma radiography
- To identify the suitability of the RT technique for the given materials
- To select film type and energy levels, select and prepare techniques for a given specimen
- To interpret and analyse the test result and generate the test result.
- To evaluate radiographic sensitivity
- To recognize and differentiate between film artifacts and defect indicators
- To be familiar with codes, standards, and specifications for RT to evaluate the results of the tests
- To be aware of the working knowledge of basic radiation safety
ATC take a mission to give the candidate training in NDT Level II RTFI Technique, especially in the oil and gas and Manufacturing Sectors, as per SNT-TC1A and ATC written practice, to give the candidate a clear vision and basics about the theory of method and practical experience to be able to be proactive personnel at the site.
