Brief Details:
This course focuses on the theory and principles of ultrasound – Properties of sound – Modes of Propagation – Behaviour of sound in a material – Snell’s Law Mode Conversion – Ultrasonic Equipments – Probes – Components of ultrasonic flaw detector (UFD) – Calibration Block, Reference block – Transfer Correction – Calibration of Equipments – Beam spread, Attenuation – Sensitivity setting – Thickness Measurement and lamination checks – UT Methods – Ultrasonic Equipment Checks – Ultrasonic Testing of welds scanning – Flaw Sizing Methods – Immersion, PAUT, TOFD and advancements – Scan Representations – Scanning Pattern, Interpretation & Evaluation – Acceptance Criteria – Echo Dynamic Pattern & Reporting – Welding Processes and Weld defects – Number of practical exercises on test specimens containing simulated flaws.
Course Objectives:
- To explain the principles of Ultrasonic Testing
- To calibrate ultrasonic equipment and probes
- To measure the thickness of steel plates and determine levels of attenuation
- To locate and evaluate laminations and thickness measurements
- To identify suitability of UT for the material and inspection techniques
- To select the correct type of probe to examine welded butt joints in steel plate, pipe and aerospace components/structures
- To report on the location and size of defects in typical welded butt joints
- To interpret and evaluate the test result as per international applicable codes & standards
